Tasting
Notes Reference
Slapjack
Creek Reserve Pinot Noir: Made
only in those years where the wine quality is superior. A deliciously
full bodied wine, containing layers of complexity with well integrated
oak, deep purple in colour and exuding flavours of black cherries,
plums, and savoury mushrooms and bacon. It is seductively smooth,
and lingers in the mouth.
Jackson
Barry Pinot Noir: Deep
purple in colour and displaying vibrant flavours of ripe cherries,
black plums, and mushrooms laced with strong spicey oak. It is
full and smooth in the mouth, with a long finish.
Nipple Hill: A well balanced, lighter
style but well rounded wine. Matured in tank with some oak influence
to suit the weight of the wine, it displays the delicious aromas
and flavours of Pinot Noir without being heavy or over wooded. Named
for the hill adjacent to the vineyard.
Summer
Dreaming: This is a rose style Pinot
Noir made especially for those gorgeous long summer evenings or
to sip on a verandah at lunch. Red strawberry in colour it is dry
and exudes soft Pinot Noir flavours and aromas.
Charcoal Joe Reserve Chardonnay: This
wine is full bodied with melons and citrus on the nose and lovely integration
of oak providing a mouth filling
experience for the affectionado.
Barrel Fermented Chardonnay: A
rich and elegant wine, showing ripe stone fruit flavours, roasted nuts
and vanilla with gently seasoned oak, it has good balance and intensity
with a long finish.
The Bannockburn Club Chardonnay: An
un-oaked Chardonnay - displaying fresh and crisp stone fruit characters
and offers delicious summer drinking. Try serving it with fish or chicken
dishes and enjoy the unadulterate taste of real Chardonnay.
Sauvignon Blanc: A
crisp, clean wine displaying gooseberry and tropical fruit flavours.
It makes excellent summer drinking and is distinctively Alsace
in style.
Riesling: A
classically crisp and dry wine, full of lime and lemon flavours
that fill the
mouth and linger. This wine is very European in style and whilst
very tasty now, it will reward cellaring.
Gewurztraminer: A sumptuous mouthfilling wine made in
a dry style. The bouquet of rose petals, lychees and cloves gives
a hint of what is to come; a concentrated
mid palate and a long finish.
Robert The Bruce: "A
Bannockburn Red", is undoubtedly the owners folly; a blend of
Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes that are located on
a hot, stony
north west slope of the vineyard. It is classic Southern Rhone in style,
dry
and full with smooth aromas and flavours of mushrooms and cow byres.
Made in minute volumes, it is very much, first come first served.
Desert
Gold Late Harvest Riesling: Late
harvest Riesling, the first vintage of 2000, was so delicious we were
tempted
to keep it all. The wine is light gold in colour and has the
most stunning nose, full of tropical fruit and citrus. It exudes ripe
pink grapefruit on the nose and the smooth mouth filling flavours
follow, exactly as your first glimpse tells you they should.
Another
low volume speciality, this wine is superb already but will reward
those who can keep it, for who knows how many years.
Autumn Gold Late Harvest Chardonnay: Late harvest Chardonnay,
first produced in 2002. The wine is light gold in colour and
has a most amazing nose, full of stone fruit and liquid raisins.
Another low volume speciality, this wine is superb already but will
substantially
reward those who can keep it.
Verjuice: Produced from green Chardonnay grapes harvested
in early February, some two months prior to normal harvesting.
This is a deliciously astringent
cooking supplement. A cross between lemon and vinegar it is a wonderful
ingredient in various dishes as well as for marinades, dressings or
even reduced as a dessert accompaniment. Try it as mixer in your
gin and tonic
or use to dip your oysters in. It contains no alcohol.
